Job Summary:

Build, install, test, or maintain robotic equipment or related automated production systems. Duties include, but not limited to, understanding various material specifications, researching and identifying proper manufacturing requirements, reviewing equipment specifications, developing drawings for products made from sheet metal, plastic, and other materials.  The functions are performed to meet objectives that include new product introduction, optimizing within current or future production capabilities, increasing manufacturing efficiencies, redesigning products, and reducing costs.

 Job Tasks:

  • Key duties and Responsibilities
    • Troubleshoot robotic systems, using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics, or pneumatics.
    • Determine causes of operational problems or failures.
    • Disassemble and reassemble robots or peripheral equipment to make repairs such as replacement of defective circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, and servomotors.
    • Assemble equipment or components.
    • Maintain electromechanical equipment.
    • Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems or components.
    • Maintain electromechanical equipment.
    • Maintain service records of robotic equipment or automated production systems.
    • Maintain operational records or records systems.
    • Install, program, or repair programmable controllers, robot controllers, end-of-arm tools, or conveyors.
    • Program robotic equipment.
    • Maintain electromechanical equipment.
    • Document robotics test procedures and results.
    • Prepare procedural documents.
    • Document design or operational test results.
    • Align, fit, or assemble component parts using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes.
    • Assemble equipment or components.
    • Attach wires between controllers.
    • Assemble equipment or components.
    • Test performance of robotic assemblies, using instruments such as oscilloscopes, electronic voltmeters, or bridges.
    • Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment.
    • Develop robotic path motions to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality.
    • Program robotic equipment.
    • Modify computer-controlled robot movements.
    • Program robotic equipment.
    • Train personnel to use or maintain robots.
    • Train personnel on proper operational procedures.
    • Build or assemble robotic devices or systems.
    • Assemble equipment or components.
    • Program complex robotic systems, such as vision systems.
    • Program robotic equipment.
    • Assist engineers in the design, configuration, or application of robotic systems.
    • Design electromechanical equipment or systems.
    • Inspect installation sites.
    • Inspect facilities or sites to determine if they meet specifications or standards.
    • Install new robotic systems in stationary positions or on tracks.
    • Install production equipment or systems.
    • Train robots, using artificial intelligence software or interactive training techniques, to perform simple or complex tasks, such as designing and carrying out a series of iterative tests of chemical samples.
    • Maintain inventories of production supplies such as sensors and cables.
    • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
    • Fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, or fixtures, using metalworking machines.
    • Fabricate products or components using machine tools.
    • Develop three-dimensional simulations of automation systems.
    • Create graphical representations of industrial production systems.
    • Maintaining the health of robots;
    • Partner with engineering to improve future robots;
    • Create and maintain internal and partner documentation;
    • Carry out maintenance activities and upgrades on robots and infrastructure;
    • Troubleshoot technical issues reported teams;
    • Other duties as assigned.

     Work Experience and Requirements

    • Associates Degree in related field (Automation, Robotics or related)
    • Software/Programming knowledge & skill required.
    • Technical Writing knowledge & skill is required.
    • One-five years related experience in a manufacturing facility
    • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred.
    • Laser & CNC programming experience preferred.
    • Advanced MS Office skills required.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to read and understand equipment operation manuals, Safety Data Sheets, and other literature.
    • Experience with ERP Software preferred.
    • Advanced mathematics skills required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
    • Experience with SolidWorks a preferred.
    • Strong organization skills and attention to detail required.
    • The ability to work with multiple discipline projects.
    • Detail oriented with proven mechanical aptitude and demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems/devices, as well as robotic systems, programming, and associated hardware.
    • Understanding of automated manufacturing principles and techniques.
    • Understanding of PLCs, I/O and logic
    • Ability to install, configure, and test software.
    • Knowledge of electrical and control systems, with ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and wiring diagrams.
    • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software
    • Knowledge of cost, efficiency, and productivity optimization methods
    • Inspect and assemble per drawings and specifications.
    • Hands-on approach to troubleshooting, diagnosing to solving technical issues.
    • Experience in vision systems preferred

    Language Skills:

    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Additional languages preferred.

    Physical demands/Requirements

    • This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping or kneeling, precision eye work, reaching, pulling or pushing.  Good hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are considered essential.  Ability to differentiate color.  A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands and/or feet may also be required.  Occasional moving of product of up to 50 lbs.  Requires wearing personal protective equipment.  Requires working indoors in environmentally non-controlled conditions.
